My philosophy of music is built on my overall philosophy as outlined on the home page. Rather than re-state that here, I will explain my approach to music. Music is neutral (balanced) it is neither good nor bad, inherently. In its neutral state it is the spirit of all existence and the gateway to all truth.
There are two fundamental ways to approach music.
The most common way that I see most often, is those who use music as a means to an end. They are not in harmony with music, nor do they seek to come into resonance with it. Instead, through technical perserverance or inherent talent, they use music as a base that they paste their musical motive on. Their goal is fame, fortune, sex, a bar tab, manipulation, etc... In this disrespect of music, they seek to twist it to their own ends. As successful and talented as they are, the spirit behind such music is dormant and dead.
The second way, which I adhere to. Is to seek to co-operate with the power and essence of music. To be allowed to intermingle with its majesty, and thereby be taken on a journey to knowledge and creativity. The where and how of the journey is inconsequential. The only motive is to become resonant with music and respect the journey as a seeker of wisdom that has been given a glimpse of understanding, and then share it with anyone willing to hear. This requires patience an earnest seeking for such opportunities. It's not about what music does for me, it is about what music is, and being allowed to merge with it to step beyond my carnal bonds and be taken back to the truth of my existence, if only for a moment at a time.
As a result of this, I try to the best of my ability to be open to where music takes me. In personal preference, I tend towards the genres of blues and rock, but follow music through any genre or expression. Most of the music that I compose or arrange is mixed genre and eclectic in instrumentation. As long as there is common ground (balance) musical harmony (peace) can be attained.
Please feel free to browse my music page. I hope it brings you peace and understanding.
With love,
Eclectic Hobo
